Individual Psychotherapy
One-on-one therapy tailored to what you're actually dealing with.
Individual psychotherapy, sometimes called talk therapy, is one of the most effective ways to understand yourself better and make meaningful changes in your life. At Juniper Blu Collective, our therapists work one-on-one with adults and adolescents across Maryland, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, eating disorders, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. We draw on evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT-informed techniques, and psychodynamic therapy, matched to what you need, not a standard protocol. Most people come in knowing something isn’t working. We help you figure out why, and what to do about it.

How Individual Therapy Differs from Other Types of Therapy
Juniper Blu Collective offers couples therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and individual art therapy alongside individual psychotherapy. Individual therapy is different from all of them in one fundamental way: the work is entirely about you.
In couples or family therapy, the focus is on what happens between people. In group therapy, shared experience is part of the therapeutic process itself. Individual therapy is the only format where every session is dedicated to understanding one person’s inner life, patterns, and history.
For most people, individual therapy is where they start. It can also run alongside other services. Someone might be in individual and couples therapy at the same time, or begin individual work and later add group therapy as an additional layer of support. Your therapist can help you think through what combination makes sense for where you are.
Why Choose Individual Psychotherapy?
At Juniper Blu, individual talk therapy can help you through a variety of challenges including managing anxiety, navigating relationship and intimacy challenges, working through trauma, coping with depression, eating disorder support, and more!
Struggling with social anxiety and can’t seem to make new connections? Or, are you just tired of waiting for the next anxiety “episode” to happen late at night when you’re trying to relax? At Juniper Blu, we know the struggle is all too real. Through a variety of individual therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we can help you focus, regain control, and start living life again.
Human emotions are complex and sometimes we need help uncovering the “why” behind what we feel. Individual therapy provides a supportive space to explore your emotions and thoughts, no mater what you’re going through. At Juniper Blu, we offer open and honest dialogue with skilled therapists so you can gain a deeper understanding of your feelings, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and improve your overall emotional well-being.
Is there a “perfect” relationship? Probably not. Regardless, relationship difficulties can be a source of significant stress and unhappiness in our lives. Individual therapy offers a neutral and confidential setting to explore your role in relationships, develop effective communication skills, and build stronger connections with others.
Trauma can have a profound impact on your life, and on the lives of those around you. At Juniper Blu, our individual therapeutic approach provides specialized support to help you process traumatic experiences, develop coping strategies, and overcome the symptoms of trauma. Through evidence-based treatments, you can regain a sense of control and find healing.
Depression can be a debilitating condition that interferes with daily life — and sometimes it feels unending. We can offer a supportive environment to address the symptoms of depression, teach you how to cope effectively, and build your resilience. With the guidance of our skilled therapists, you can learn to manage your mood, improve your overall well-being, and find hope for the future.
Eating disorders, no matter the form they take, are complex challenges to overcome. Individual therapy at Juniper Blu enables you to address the underlying causes of your eating disorder, learn how to cope, and rebuild a positive relationship with food and your body. With the support of our therapists, you can achieve lasting recovery and improve your overall quality of life.

FAQs
Therapy is for those who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that’s something to be admired. No matter what you’re facing, therapy can provide lasting benefits and support and give you the tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome challenges.
Psychotherapy (talk therapy) includes a group of therapeutic approaches that can help you to understand problems, emotions, and other obstacles that you may be struggling to deal with. Often used to help treat mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, psychotherapy can also be helpful with issues such as trauma, substance use, relationship challenges, and eating disorders among others.
It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. Working with your medical doctor you can determine what’s best for you, and in some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.
The terms are often used interchangeably. Psychotherapy generally refers to a deeper, longer-term process focused on understanding the root causes of emotional and behavioral patterns. Counseling often refers to shorter-term, goal-focused support. At Juniper Blu, the approach is tailored to what you actually need, whether that is more exploratory or more practical.
There is no standard timeline. Some people come with a specific goal and reach it in a few months. Others engage in longer-term work to address deeper patterns or ongoing mental health challenges. After your initial sessions, your therapist can give you a clearer sense of what to expect based on what you’re working on.
At Juniper Blu, individual therapy supports people navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, PTSD, eating disorders, grief, chronic illness, mood disorders, personality disorders including BPD and OCPD, autism and neurodivergence, relationship challenges, and more.
