Individual Psychotherapy
One-on-one virtual therapy with a licensed therapist who actually gets what you're going through.
Maybe you have been thinking about calling a therapist for months. Not because everything has fallen apart, but because something has felt quietly off for long enough that you have started to just live with it. You are getting through your days. You are showing up. But underneath that, there is something you have been carrying, and it is not getting lighter on its own.
That is exactly how most people describe where they are when they first reach out to Juniper Blu Collective.
Individual psychotherapy at Juniper Blu is one-on-one, virtual, and available to adults and young adults across Maryland, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania. It is not a crisis line. It is for people who are ready to understand what is going on and do something about it, on their own terms.

Balance Begins Here
What People Come to Individual Therapy For
People reach out for individual therapy at Juniper Blu Collective for a lot of different reasons. Some know exactly what they want to work on. Others just know something needs to change.
It might look manageable from the outside, but it is exhausting. The racing thoughts before bed. The constant second-guessing. The feeling of being “on” all the time, especially in a city like DC where everyone seems to have it together.
Not always the kind that keeps you in bed, but the kind that makes everything feel flat. Low motivation. Pulling back from people. A heaviness that has been around so long it has started to feel like just who you are.
Juniper Blu was founded with eating disorder support at its core. Whether you are navigating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, ARFID, or patterns of disordered eating that do not have a clear label, this is something our therapists understand deeply.
Maybe it happened years ago, but it still drives how you react in certain situations, how you relate to people, or how you feel in your own body. Our therapists use evidence-based approaches like EMDR, CBT, and DBT to help you process what happened without being retraumatized by it.
Including BPD and OCPD. These are not things you just “push through.” They require clinical support from people who know what they are working with.
Loss reshapes everything. So does living with a condition that never fully goes away. Individual therapy gives you a space to work through what these experiences actually mean for your day-to-day life.
You can see it happening, but you cannot seem to stop it. Therapy can help you understand why the pattern exists and what it would take to change it.
Juniper Blu offers neurodivergence-affirming therapy that respects how you experience the world rather than trying to make you fit a mold.
If none of these describe you perfectly, that is fine. You do not need a diagnosis to start therapy. You just need to want something to be different.
You Don’t Have to Be in Crisis to Deserve Support
One of the most common things people say when they first reach out is some version of: “I am not sure I am struggling enough to need therapy.”
You are.
The threshold for starting therapy is not a breakdown. It is the recognition that something in your life would be better with support. Anxiety that keeps you up at night. A pattern in your relationships you can see but cannot seem to change. A low-grade sadness that has been around so long you have stopped noticing it. A feeling that you should be further along by now, and you are not sure why you are not.
These are real concerns. They have weight. And they respond to real support.
Individual therapy is not about being sick. It is about having a dedicated space with someone trained to help you think more clearly about your own life. That is something anyone can benefit from.
How Individual Psychotherapy Works at Juniper Blu Collective
Your first session is not about filling out forms or answering clinical questions from a checklist. It is a conversation. Your therapist will want to know what brought you here, what your life looks like right now, and what you are hoping to get out of the work. Together, you will start shaping a plan that makes sense for you.
The approach is not one-size-fits-all. Juniper Blu therapists use a range of clinical methods depending on what fits your needs, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic therapy, somatic practices, and art therapy. Your therapist will talk through what they recommend and why, and it may shift as the work evolves.
Session frequency depends on you. Most people start with weekly sessions. Some move to biweekly once things feel more stable. There is no locked-in commitment. You and your therapist figure out what rhythm works.
Collaborative care when it helps. For people navigating eating disorders or complex mental health challenges, Juniper Blu therapists work alongside dietitians, nutritionists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and primary care physicians. Your therapist coordinates so you are not doing that work alone.
The Therapists You Would Be Working With
Juniper Blu Collective was founded in 2013 by Jamie L. Jones, a licensed professional counselor, clinical art therapist, and Certified Telebehavioral Health Professional with more than 17 years of experience in the Washington DC area. She built the practice around eating disorder and trauma support and grew it into a multi-therapist telehealth collective that now serves a wide range of mental health needs.
The team includes licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers, licensed graduate professional counselors, and trained therapists working under direct clinical supervision. Several therapists offer multilingual sessions in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Greek.
Clinical approaches across the team include CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), narrative therapy, somatic practices, mindfulness-informed care, and art therapy. What shows up in your sessions depends on you, your therapist, and what you are working on together.
Why People Choose Juniper Blu Collective for Individual Therapy
Virtual therapy is not an add-on. It is how the practice was built. Juniper Blu is a telehealth-native practice. The entire model was designed for virtual delivery from day one, not retrofitted from an in-person setup.
The team is diverse in training, unified in values. You get access to therapists trained across CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, IFS, art therapy, and more. But everyone at Juniper Blu shares the same commitment to evidence-based, trauma-informed, collaborative care.
Specialized depth where it matters most. The practice was founded around eating disorder and trauma support, and that clinical depth still runs through the team. But Juniper Blu has grown well beyond those roots into a full-scope mental health practice serving people across a wide range of concerns.
Why Virtual Therapy Works for Individual Psychotherapy
Most people don’t cancel therapy because it stopped helping. They cancel because getting there became one more thing to manage. Virtual individual psychotherapy removes that barrier entirely.
At Juniper Blu Collective, every individual therapy session is delivered through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, no commute through Bethesda traffic, no waiting rooms, no rearranging your afternoon. You log on from wherever you’re most comfortable, and the session starts.

FAQs
Individual psychotherapy, sometimes called talk therapy, is a one-on-one therapeutic process where you work with a licensed therapist to understand and address emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns. At Juniper Blu Collective, all individual therapy sessions are conducted virtually through a secure video platform for people in Maryland, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania.
Therapy is for those who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that’s something to be admired. No matter what you’re facing, therapy can provide lasting benefits and support and give you the tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome challenges.
It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. Working with your medical doctor you can determine what’s best for you, and in some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.
The terms are often used interchangeably. Psychotherapy generally refers to a deeper, longer-term process focused on understanding the root causes of emotional and behavioral patterns. Counseling often refers to shorter-term, goal-focused support. At Juniper Blu, the approach is tailored to what you actually need, whether that is more exploratory or more practical.
There is no standard timeline. Some people come with a specific goal and reach it in a few months. Others engage in longer-term work to address deeper patterns or ongoing mental health challenges. After your initial sessions, your therapist can give you a clearer sense of what to expect based on what you’re working on.
At Juniper Blu, individual therapy supports people navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, PTSD, eating disorders, grief, chronic illness, mood disorders, personality disorders including BPD and OCPD, autism and neurodivergence, relationship challenges, and more.
Yes. All individual therapy at Juniper Blu Collective is delivered through telehealth via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Sessions are available to people living in Maryland, Washington DC, or Pennsylvania.
Yes. Some people combine individual psychotherapy with couples therapy, group therapy, or individual art therapy. Your individual therapist stays the consistent anchor across your care and can help you decide whether adding a service makes sense.
No. You do not need a formal diagnosis to begin individual therapy. Many people start therapy because something feels off, not because they have been told they have a specific condition. Your therapist can help you understand what you are experiencing as part of the process.
Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for a wide range of mental health concerns. Many people find that being in their own environment actually helps them open up more easily.
Insurance and Payment for Individual Therapy
Juniper Blu Collective accepts CareFirst insurance for individual psychotherapy. If you have a different insurance plan, a concierge service is available to help you understand and use your out-of-network benefits before you begin. We commonly work with PPO, HMO, POS, and federal insurance plans. Medicaid and Medicare are not accepted at this time.
Articles From The Juniper Blu Blog
Our therapists write about the questions people actually ask: about recovery, parenting, relationships, and what therapy really looks like. These articles come from the same clinical perspective we bring to sessions, grounded in experience, not generic advice. If something resonates, we are here when you are ready to talk.
